1일 국내 번역 출간된 프랑스 작가 미셸 슈나이더의 장편소설 '마릴린, 그녀의 마지막 정신상담'(아고라)에 나오는 주인공의 대사다.

미국 배우 마릴린 먼로의 삶은 너무나 잘 알려져 있다. 흔히 '섹시 심벌'로 불리는 그녀는 대중의 인기는 얻었지만 불우한 어린시절, 약물 중독 등으로 불행하게 살았다.

그녀의 삶을 소재로 한 슈나이더의 소설은 1960년대 로스앤젤레스를 배경으로 하고 있다. 자신의 정신상담가와 심적 교류를 한 먼로의 죽음을 통해 당시 연예산업과 화려한 조명 뒤에 숨겨진 스타의 번민 등을 다뤘다.

소설에 등장하는 랠프 그린슨은 정신상담가다. 그는 1960년 1월말부터 먼로가 죽기까지 2년6개월 간 그녀와 정신상담을 했다. 소설은 두 사람의 이야기 위주로 전개된다.
